Pursue Your Passion … Online!
By Nancy Shaffran, CVT, VTS (ECC)
After 30+ years in veterinary medicine, I still get a little stuck when strangers ask me what I do for a living. I want them to hear that I’m a teacher, an advocate, and a passionate crusader for animal pain management and for the field of veterinary technology. I want them to know how important my work is, that veterinarian is not the only respected position in veterinary medicine, and that I make a difference. People I meet should know that I have had the privilege of teaching all over the world and have met people who have astounded me at every stop along the way. I want to tell them that caring for ill animals that can’t speak, are sometimes quite threatening, may be near death, and may have distraught families is a labor of love, endurance, and dedication that, to me, is unparalleled. I want people to know that I’ve had an incredible career working to earn the trust of caregivers who time and again come to my lectures, stay to share their stories, and send me e-mails long after, saying that I helped them make a difference. I treasure these e-mails. So even though I still think “on line” is where we wait at a bank or store in New York, I know that online communication is a great way to instantly let people know how passionate you are about a subject. It seems fitting, then, that Veterinary Technician is now exclusively available online at Vetlearn.com.
